Clip-in Hair Extensions FAQ: Everything Beginners Need To Know

Clip-in Hair Extensions FAQ

This guide answers the most frequently asked questions about clip-in hair extensions — covering hair quality, colour matching, application, care, and how to choose the right set for your hair type. Our extensions are made from 100% Remy human hair and feature colour melt shades as seen in Cosmopolitan magazine.

The Hair – Real or Fake?

Is it real human hair or synthetic?

Our clip-in extensions are made from 100% Remy human hair — the highest quality available. Remy means the cuticles are intact and aligned in the same direction, giving you a natural look, smooth texture, and long-lasting wear. Unlike synthetic alternatives, they can be washed, heat-styled, and coloured just like your own hair.

How long do clip-in extensions last?

With proper care, a set of virgin Remy clip-ins will last 12 to 24 months sometimes longer. Because you remove them daily, they experience far less stress than bonded or sewn-in methods. The keys are gentle handling, washing only when needed, and proper storage.

Regular non-virgin Remy hair will last 6 months or more with proper care.

Can I put them in at home?

Absolutely — that’s the whole point. Section your hair horizontally, tease the roots slightly for grip, snap the clips open, press them close to the root, and snap shut. Most people get the hang of it within 10–15 minutes and can do a full set in under 30 minutes once confident.

Applying Clip-in Hair Extensions

Will the clips show or slip out?

Not when applied correctly. Clip into a section that sits above the weft so your natural hair covers the clips completely. Backcombing the roots slightly before clipping adds grip and prevents slipping throughout the day. For very fine hair, a light spritz of texturising spray at the root makes a big difference.l the clips show or slip out?

How much natural hair length do I need?

A minimum of around 10 cm (4 inches) — enough to cover the clips and blend the extension. If you’re adding length, extensions should ideally be no more than double your natural length for the most natural result.

Hair Types – Thin, Medium or Thick Hair?

Will extensions work on fine or thin hair?

Remove extensions before washing your own hair. Wash them separately every 15–20 wears using a sulphate-free moisturising shampoo, working in gentle downward strokes. Condition from mid-length to ends, rinse in cool water, and lay flat or hang to air dry. Avoid soaking the clips.

Can I use heat tools on them?

Yes, straighten, curl, and wave them just like your own hair. Always use a heat protectant first and keep tools below 180°C (356°F) to preserve quality and your colour melt tones. Avoid applying heat directly to the clips themselves.

How many grams do I need?

For added volume only, 100–120g is usually enough. For noticeable length and volume, 150–180g works well for most people. For a full, dramatic transformation, opt for 200g+. When in doubt, go slightly heavier — you can always choose not to clip in every weft.

Buying Advice – Price Variation Why?

How should I store them?

Store in the original box or a silk or satin bag to prevent tangling. Loosely braid the wefts or lay them flat never bundle tightly. Keep away from direct sunlight and humidity, which can fade colour and affect texture over time.

Why is the price difference so big between brands?

The main factors are hair quality, sourcing, and weight. Cheaper sets often use lower-grade or synthetic-blended hair that mats and loses its finish quickly. Genuine Remy human hair costs more but behaves like real hair, lasts significantly longer, and looks far more natural. Quality pays for itself over time.

Do clip-ins damage your natural hair?

Clip-ins are widely considered the least damaging extension method — no bonds, glues, or heat applied to your natural hair. That said, wearing heavy sets daily or clipping into the same spots repeatedly can cause stress over time. Rotate clip placement, give your hair rest days, and never sleep in your extensions.
